When: Probably 1986
Where: In a motel & nightclub somewhere in a town on the outskirts of Sacramento, and, the next day, Santa Clara
And: We met the band on their American Heyday tour. One of my friends had met the band before, so we had dinner with them and hung out at the motel. Seems we spent the most time with Marty Willson-Piper and [former drummer] Richard Ploog. I remember that Marty’s suitcase was packed with lots of books — heavy books! (That always reminded me that one of his early songs on Remote Luxury was called “Volumes.”)
