Crowded House in Montreux

Just over a year after I’d last seen (and seen and seen and seen) Crowded House in California, we were both in the same place again — halfway across the world. I think they were a little surprised to see me (and my two friends, who had met them the year before in LA).

We also got to go to the listening party ahead of the release of Temple Of Low Men , which was the follow-up to their successful debut album, which was then gold and later went platinum (see invite below). I remember hearing the new album and thinking how cool it was that I actually knew some of the songs — Better Be Home Soon, When You Come, Sister Madly — from the California shows. (I remember because, yeah, I taped the concerts… but no, don’t have them anymore. Ah well.)

  1. I recall them at Montreux and them playing Sister Madly in their three-piece suits. Hester was up front center with Neil and Nick like he use to do in the early years.

In late 86 and early 87 Hester played snare more than the full kit. It was amazing stuff. Loved those early days. Especially when they would open with Massive (Hester written song from Spitl Enz days).
